The Crown King General Store has been open continuously since 1904. As “Information Central” and the main shopping hub for Crown King, the General Store sells almost anything you can imagine!

The General Store is home to the only gas pump in Crown King. We also sell ice, groceries, beer, snacks, sandwiches, chips, ice cream, clothes, gifts, souvenirs, housewares, tools, tires and our “World-Famous” homemade fudge in a large selection of flavors. We ship fudge across the US during cooler months—It makes a great gift for the holidays! Order online!

The Crown King Post Office is located in the General Store and receives mail 6 days a week. Our town is still mourning the recent passing of our beloved mailman, Wilbur Thorpe. For over 18 years, Wilbur was contracted with the USPS to deliver mail to Crown King, Cleator and Bumblebee. At over 85 years of age, Wilbur was likely the oldest mailman in the country. Every day, rain or shine, he maneuvered our switchbacks with a smile. His pockets were stuffed with doggie-bones for the local pooches. The dog owners said their dogs would let them know when it was time for Wilbur’s arrival. This is the last photo taken of Wilbur over the Memorial Day 2006 weekend. All of the locals dearly miss Wilbur, especially Atlas and Scruffy.

New Ice Cream Counter

Memorial Weekend 2006 was the Grand Opening of the Rocky Road Sweet Stop, located on the front porch of the General Store. The Sweet Stop serves delicious Thrifty-brand ice cream, pretzels, nachos, candy and snacks. Relax on one of the picnic tables under our apple tree and enjoy a tasty treat from the Sweet Stop!
