CROWN KING COMMEMORATES MEMORIAL DAY IN STYLE!

Crown King honored our Fallen Soldiers and all Veterans at the Annual Memorial Day Parade. Our local Veterans, from WWII till today, led the parade. Veterans were treated to a Free Ice Cream Cone at the General Store to show our appreciation. Chief Lombardo and his crew hosted the Kids Carnival after the parade. Thanks to the CKFD for helping make this year’s parade even more special. However you spent your Memorial Day Weekend, we hope it was wonderful. From all of us at the General Store, thanks for your continued support. With your help we will be here for another 108 years to serve Crown King.

HOW THE LOCALS UNWIND!

Eight local Crown King-ers rode off mid week for a long distance ride! From Crown King, to Williams, to Ash Fork, then to Halapai at the Grand Canyon, to Seligman, Prescott and back to Crown King! It’s fair to say that these locals are very adventurous! After picking up a sandwich at the General Store, they were off on their grand ride. It was a grueling pace, but they all made it back to Crown King, safe & sound.

ANOTHER WAY TO TRAVEL TO CK!

Rob, from Alaska, spent a few spring days in Crown King before he traveled on to Prescott via The Senator Highway. This was Rob’s third year in a row to visit our town. Thanks for putting us on your itinerary, we look forward to seeing you again next year!

Spring Chili Cook-Off 2013 was a winner!

This year’s Spring Chili Cook-Off was better than ever! With 24 Chili entries, the 2013 Chili Contest heated up the afternoon at the Crown King Saloon. The entire town was full, with parking at a premium! Plenty of campers, day trippers, cabin owners and overnight guests attended this year’s event. Thanks to all the contestants who participated in the cook-off! Congratulations to the winners, too! Check out the slide show for photos from the Crown King Saloon’s Spring Chili Cook-Off. This was the last main event that Mike and Dawn Colt will host as owners of the Saloon. In the next week the new owners, Doug and Erica White, will take over as the new proprietors. Thanks to the Colts for all the years of fun events and good luck to the Whites in their new venture.

CHEAP TRUCK CHALLENGE Hits the Crown King Trail

Peterson’s 4 Wheel & Off Road Magazine features a “Cheap Truck Challenge” for four wheel enthusiasts in their monthly publication. Yesterday a group of 8 trucks arrived in Crown King with their redneck rides. The participants filmed their adventure and will soon be available for viewing on You Tube. This ‘Cheap Truck Challenge’ was between four vehicles, all of which were purchased for less than $2,013. The rules of the challenge allow for up to $2,013 in modifications. Check out the photos of the rides and drivers. I am not sure what was up with the wigs???? Rumor has it they were a lot of fun to watch last night at the Crown King Saloon! Thanks to Rick Pewe, Editor in Chief and all his crew for helping to put Crown King on the ‘Off Road’ map. We made sure they all left town with a complimentary ‘trademark’ oval CK Sticker on their trucks.

Congratulations to Kalib Wilkinson for being the first to cross the finish line in the 2013 Crown King Scramble! This grueling run begins at Lake Pleasant and ends at the Crown King Saloon! The runners, all 150 of them, are trickling into town this morning. Kalib ran it in 4 hrs and 10 minutes. If you have ever jeeped up the back side to Crown King you know what a rugged trail these athletes are enduring. Thanks to the coordinators of this event for bringing it back to Crown King. We are happy to host the runners and their friends.

The winter season kicked off with the Christmas Light Parade on Sat Dec 8th…..Luckily Santa found time to drop by and visit with the children at the Crown King Saloon. This year’s parade drew quite a crowd. Thanks to all the participants and spectators that helped make this year’s parade one of the all time best!

We finally had our first big snow of the season! We woke up yesterday morning to over 6 inches of snow and it has been snowing ever since. There is at least 8-10 inches of snow here in town! Come on up and enjoy our winter wonderland!!

Apple Festival at the General Store!

GOT APPLES???

Thanks to all the kids, big and little, who helped celebrate Crown King’s 2012 Apple Festival at the General Store! This year’s event was a bit scaled down from years past, but still lot of old fashioned family fun. The antique apple tree on the front porch of the General Store provided plenty of yummy “Blushing Maiden” Apples for everyone. We melted down our chocolate fudge and let kids dip and decorate their own apples. As you can guess, there were some unique candied apples!! This year we included Gummy Bears along with the traditional toppings. Jennifer Hill’s famous Apple Crisp was a big hit with the crowd . Thanks to everyone who attended and a special thanks to the volunteers. On behalf of Margaret, Jennifer, Terri, Ben & Carol……Thank You. We truly appreciate you all!
