Happy Memorial Day from Crown King! Each year our parade is led by Veterans of every branch of the Military. We remember all the Military troops who served bravely & paid the ultimate price for our Freedom. Thank you to all who served our great country and their families for the sacrifices they made for us. Here in Crown King we celebrate Memorial Day with the Worlds Shortest Parade. It travels down Main Street, through the Bear Creek Cabins and then back through town again. There are not many places where you get to see a parade both ‘coming and going’! Here is a slide show of the 2014 Memorial Day Parade and some of the other fun events this weekend. Thanks to the Crown King Fire Dept for hosting a Kids Carnival after the parade. Also, thanks to the US Forest Service guys for bringing along Smokey the Bear again this year. Our town owes a debt of gratitude to both the Fire Dept and USFS for all they do to keep our community safe.

The local American Legion Post 139 hosted it’s Annual Fundraiser BBQ at the Crown King General Store patio. There was music, dancing, food & brews along with lots of good times. After the Yarnell Fire last year, Sandy & Gerry from the General Store, along with several locals, rode their quads to Yarnell to help the local community and share their support for Yarnell residents & businesses. During their stay they met a fabulous musician named Denise Roggio and made lots of new friends.  Denise, along with a dozen or more friends, traveled to Crown King this weekend to help support our American Legion. Not only is Denise a talented musician, she also wrote several songs after the tragic loss of 19 Firefighters in the 2013 Yarnell Fire. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as she dedicated her ‘Yarnell Rising’ song to Anthony Rose and his 18 fellow Granite Mountain Hotshots who perished fighting the Wildfire last year.  It was such a pleasure to meet the folks from Yarnell and to forge friendships that will create a true ‘sister city’ for Crown King.

Thanks to everyone who spent their weekend with us here in Crown King. May you have a safe Summer 2014. Please plan to come visit again soon, perhaps for Wine in the Pines? It is June 7th, 5-9PM at the CK Saloon. For details and to buy tickets visit WineInThePinesAz.com
