Saturday, June 14th, the residents and cabin owners joined forces to eliminate brush and helped create defensible space in the town of Crown King. During the past few weeks, owners have cleared brush around their cabins and piled the slash along their roads for the annual CK Fire Dept Fuels Clean Up Day. The Crown King Fire Department organized 43 volunteers equipped with pitchforks, shovels, pickups, trailers, dump trucks & tractors. Linda Lombardo was the Operations Manager for this massive project. According to Chief Lombardo, there were 68 properties serviced by the Fuels Clean Up, which resulted in 70 loads of brush transported to the staging area. From the staging area, the piles of brush were transferred to large dump trucks and delivered to the Slash Pile off Senator Highway.
“This was an outstanding job by all the volunteers. They have helped to make our community safe from a catastrophic wild fire event. Thanks to everyone who donated their time & equipment to the Fuels Clean Up Day”, says Chief Steve Lombardo.
The CK Fire Dept hosted their Annual ‘Thank You BBQ/Potluck’ to show their appreciation to all the volunteers & firefighters who participated in the Fuels Clean Up project. Local residents donated homemade specialties to the potluck to show their appreciation as well. Even the local children joined in by providing refreshments to the workers during the clean up. All in all, the Fuels Clean Up Day was a huge success and we all are much safer because of it.
