Daniel Nerheim’s Eagle Scout Project Helps Crown King Visitors

Susan & Knut Nerheim proudly stand in front of their son’s Eagle Scout Project. Daniel Nerheim saw a need and came up with a plan of action.  His parents, along all of us in Crown King, are very proud of Daniel and Boy Scout Troop 109. Visitors to Crown King often ask “where are the trails”?, “do we need OHV stickers”?,” what roads are restricted”? “how do we get to the lake”?  Now the US Forest Service has it’s very first kiosk in Crown King. This permanent monument serves to provide recreational information to Crown King visitors. It will serve the Forest Service and the community for years to come. Thanks to Daniel and his fellow Boy Scouts for their hard work. The Troop Leaders assisted in the assembly of the kiosk. Six of our town’s Forest Service Personnel also aided in the final erection of the monument. Thanks also to Jeff Hammond and his crew at the USFS work center for helping Daniel to complete his project. The entire community is proud of Daniel and Troop 109! The USFS is currently compiling the critical information to be placed in this kiosk. In the future this unit will include the Historic Walking Tour map for the town of Crown King. Daniel and Troop 109 have expressed a huge thank you to Bill and Tommey Burke for allowing the kiosk to be placed on the corner of their lot. The following also donated towards this project: The Home Depot, The Crown King General Store, The Bear Creek Cabins, The Mill Restaurant, Arizona Off Road Association, Az Desert Rat Off Road, Casa Grande Four Wheelers, Range Riders, Horizon High School National Honor Society, Prescott National Forest, with more thank you’s to follow.

If you find yourself in Crown King wondering where the hiking, biking and ATV trails are, then walk on over to the corner of Gladiator Mine Road and Main Street. Along with maps and trails, you will learn how not to get a fine or violation when visiting the Prescott National Forest. The Crown King General Store is still here to offer any assistance you may need, along with great trail maps and guide books. Hope to see you on the mountain soon!
